To Loki, for finishing another thread. XD The request was a Chicago drabble, possibly with the Sniffles thrown in.
Chicago eyed the bird hungrily. She’d seen him flying around before, but had never been able to catch him, yet. Why he was flying inside the Manor, she did not know, but she didn’t care, either. All she cared about was that he seemed tasty.
One paw, two paws. Closer, closer.
The bird hadn’t noticed her yet. Chicago licked her lips.

Mr. Sniffles wasn’t afraid of the cat. She was just a kitten, and he was a clever and strong rat. A Horseperson’s pet wasn’t afraid of one little cat.
Now, however, he was worried. The cat was targeting a wrong being. A very wrong one.
That bird, Mr. Sniffles knew, was Chirpy. Chirpy had been given to Uriel by Pestilence. And, although he didn’t know why Pestilence wasn’t around anymore, or why Uriel didn’t want to meet Pestilence, he did know Pestilence would most probably be upset if Chirpy got eaten.
Thus, Mr. Sniffles now did a very un-ratty thing. He jumped out of his hiding place and raised his voice in scolding at the cat.
‘That’s not good!’ he yelled at her, his little nose trembling angrily. ‘That’s Uriel’s bird and you may not eat him!’
Chicago took a step back. Apparently she wasn’t used to rats lecturing her. ‘And?’ she asked in the common animal language humans wish they’d understand (and those who do wish they didn’t). ‘Is this Uriel special somehow?’
‘Yes, she is,’ Mr. Sniffles replied. ‘You’re just a kitten. I’m a big rat, with a lot of other rats to back me up. If you eat that bird, then…’ His voice trailed off menacingly.
Chicago stared at him, then sniffled. ‘Fine. I wouldn’t have wanted to eat such a scrawny bird, anyway.’ She turned around and walked away, her tail and head held high in a way only cats can truly master.
Mr. Sniffles stared after the kitten. Then, he huffed and turned around to return to his family. Really, the youth of these days!
At least the bird was safe. For now.
