I think if people get into threads that they're interested in and excited about then they'll want to post frequently. And if you can do five posts in one day and then none for three days after that, it's okay, as long as it remains fun for everyone and no one is being held up for too long.
As for the chats, I don't know. That's probably a question for vulgarweed...
